A Tale of Four Mothers

As a parent it horrifies me to think WHY a King would find a child a threat to his monarchy, as herod condemned the first born, and jesus was taken into egypt, as iam sure John was also saved, as we know the story of the magi following a star leading them towards a wondrous discovery, believing the that a new king was about to be born and knowing of the prophecy of the messiah. they stopped off at the palace where they spoke to herod, a puppet king for Rome, who said “tell me where this king is born that i might worship him also” but as we know the magi found, jesus born in a stable a humble place, as god made flesh in human form, the magi left by another route.avoiding Herod, as we know that jesus was protected by his mother mary and her husband joseph, iam sure that elizabeth protected john also. suppose a similar story unfolds with Jochebed the slave living in Egypt mother of moses,Pharoah condemns the jewish people because they are multiplying and begining to out number the egyptians, Jochebed puts her son in a basket and his sister floats it down the nile and found by Bithiah Pharoah’s daughter who was going down to the nile to bathe and seen his basket in the reeds she opens the basket a finds a baby boy whom she names him and keeps him as her own, three stories and 4 mothers . God has a plan for us all. our lives are charted out before us. i suppose when we are unsure what to do , we look to God for help and direction.
